“When I remember the story of our engagement I’m always reminded of God’s humor…

I never wanted to be proposed to in church; my imagination would make up these embarrassing situations where the guy would get down on one knee in front of the whole congregation and everyone would clap for us! I had hoped my future fiance wouldn’t be so crazy as to put me in the spotlight like that but when I thought the question was coming I decided to drop a few obvious hints to John just to be sure. Fast forward a few weeks to Easter, John and I decided to go to the midnight vigil at what would become our parish. After Mass, John goes to pray in front of Our Lady and St. Joseph like he occasionally does. When he returns, I notice he is a little nervous and takes me off to the side. He, very discreetly, asks me to spend the rest of my life with him to which I, of course, said yes!

Even though I knew it was coming it was a complete surprise! I joked with John afterward that he picked the last place I was expecting to be proposed to. However, looking back, it was the only place that made sense. Our mutual love for the Eucharist and desire to follow Christ with our whole hearts is what literally brought us together. What then, could be more beautiful than making the promise to be with each other forever in front of Blessed Sacrament? Before I knew John, I didn’t think I would ever be with someone whose desire to be a good Catholic would match my own. I realize now that it’s the most important thing to be able to share with the person who will become your spouse. And though it’s not always easy, I continue to let God break down the expectations that I have and remind me that “All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” -St. Paul to the Colossians 3:17 (DRV)”

It’s funny to hear Abby share her heart about John’s proposal, because I would have never guessed that she didn’t want that. They were wedded in Harrisburg this December during Latin Mass. With utmost reverence, desire, and understanding they said ‘I Do’ to each other. Their Catholic faith was the core of everything, it was quite refreshing. And with great joy they celebrated and shared their love with friends and family!
