Today is my Birthday

Another Year older… maybe wiser? Hopefully.

It is funny where life takes you. No-one ever really knows. Even if we think we know, it often varies quite a bit. The more places I travel to, the more communities I encounter, the more beauty I touch, the more adventures I am blessed to have, the more I realize we are all hungry for more. Every culture is wanting the same thing…happiness. We look at each other, at things, at moments with longing eyes and weary souls and say maybe this is it. We are lucky to get tastes of it here but honestly, we want something this world can’t provide. WE ARE SEEKING HEAVEN. Even if we know that, we often forget it.

There is an ache within us, some feel it more then others. Many of us do a darn good job at ignoring it with a busy life or what not. Often we work harder and harder towards goal after goal. We reach a goal and it only ‘satisfies’ for so long. Sometimes, big problems happen and that ache slaps us in the face. During my travels and experiences, I have seen broken broken hearts, homes, and societies… felt it myself, in my own home. Life is hard, everywhere, uniquely, yet somehow also unified.

The biggest thing I have learned about myself is I am very far from being who I wish I was, who I was created to be. The day to day and those closes to me do a good job at reminding me of what I fail at, rightly so. Younger me naively and pridefully thought I was in good standing and heaven ready now. I am not. Any good in me is simply Jesus.

This birthday, I ask for DIVINE GRACE to not run from the ache, to not ignore it with noise, but to let it transform me. This is SO HARD. Why do I want this? Because Jesus says, that is where true growth will take place. Where we meet Him in the deepest pains of our hearts. It is in the ache we are being stretched to make more room for Jesus so we can become more kind, more courageous, more virtuous, more loving, more ourself. This is where true Joy lies, in letting Jesus transform our ugly parts into a masterpiece.

Now enough of the melancholic reflection and on to celebrating with some moscow mules and dark chocolate!!

CHEERS to Life, the real stuff, and Jesus getting us to Heaven! Thank you Jesus, thank you.
